What I Do
The main goal of prof. dr. David Stopar research is to understand microbial biofilms, their development and rheology as well as ways and means to control their growth. In his research he combines microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and biophysics tools. Learn more about his research areas.
My research
Antimicrobial Treatments
We apply the knowledge of microbes to control problems with biofilms, problems with microbes contamination in water distribution systems, microbial induced corrosion of waterlogged archeological wood or heat exchangers.
Hydrodynamic Cavitation
Cavitation causes material demage, but can also be used to kill microorganisms. We study the mechanisms of hydrodynamic cavitation induced bacterial killing.
Biofilms
Biofilm is the most prevalent life style of microbiological existence. We study model biofilm systems rheology and microrheology in an attempt to understand mechanical properties of biofilms responsable for their resiliance.
